Introduction to Black and White Darkroom Printing*

Thursdays, 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Sep 4 (6 weeks)

Discover the art and process of traditional black and white photography in this hands-on course focused on darkroom printing. You'll learn how to develop your own film and create prints using analog techniques, with plenty of support along the way. This course is ideal for beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with the darkroom.

While the focus is on printing, we’re happy to address questions about cameras and making exposures as they come up. Each session includes demos, group instruction, and time to work on your prints with individual guidance.

Important:

  • Please come to the first class with a roll of exposed black and white film ready to develop.
  • If you’ll miss either of the first two classes, please wait to join a future session—those early weeks cover essential material that’s hard to catch up on if you’re new to the process.

Students must have access to a 35mm film camera and provide their own film and paper. Chemistry for developing and printing is included in the course fee.

Continuing Your Black and White Darkroom Printing Practice

Thursdays, 6:30pm to 9:30pm. TBA-Starting in October (6 weeks)

This 6-week class is for returning students who want to keep building their black and white darkroom skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. We’ll start each session with a short talk or demo—topics might include working with fiber paper, dodging and burning, finishing and matting prints, or building a cohesive series. The rest of class is open lab time to print, experiment, and get feedback.

The first class will help set the pace: we’ll check in on what everyone wants to focus on and shape the weeks to follow based on the group’s interests and goals. Whether you're looking to push your technique, create a portfolio, or just get back into the rhythm of printing, this class is about helping you develop your own ongoing practice.
